Parque de la Memoria - Monumento a las Víctimas de Terrorismo de Estado
Created in 1998, the park is a public space of 14 hectares located in the coastal strip of the city of Buenos Aires overviewing the Río de la Plata. It is a space dedicated to the memory and remembrance of the victims of the military dictatorship (1976-1983). The park houses the Monument to the Victims of State Terrorism, a Public Art programme, and the PAyS exhibition room. The park is a site designed to invite remembrance as well as contemplation and reflection about the country’s recent past.
Espacio Memoria y Derechos Humanos (ex-ESMA)
ESMA stands for Escuela Mecánica de la Armada, which used to serve as a clandestine centre of torture and detention during the military dictatorship (1976-1983). Since 2004, it has been repurposed as a site of memory and human rights, dedicated to the remembrance of the victims of state terrorism as well as the promotion of human rights. The site houses a number of museum spaces, human rights organizations and archives. The Espacio is a thriving site for memory work, exhibiting artistic practices, hosting workshops and academic events, and engaging with activism in the service of human rights.
